The Royal Hotel is a long-established Stromness hostelry now owned and operated by local couple Karen and Gareth Crichton. Formerly a general trading store with close associations with the pioneers of the Hudsons Bay Company, the hotel is situated in the middle of the town on the main street and operates year round. The hotel has no private parking though there is space for drop-off and pick-up in the street. General parking is to be found 150m to the north at the harbour and ferry terminal, or off the Back Road behind the hotel at the Old Academy with access down the Boys Lane beside the hotel.
